| Ah, that brilliant rejoinder guaranteed to shut up pesky imps like DJV, who constantly remind the world that the land was indeed stolen, that there are still living exiles who hold the keys to their homes, whose property has been given to strangers, whose villages have been demolished. And no justice for them. DJV was not around some 300 years ago, when the white Europeans claimed the land in the name of Manifest Destiny. Back then, colonising and ethnic cleansing were the norm, as described in Deuteronomy. The world has matured, slowly, painfully. Apologies have been made to the natives, but without actual deeds and living witnesses to the slaughters and dispossession, there is not much that can be done. However, the crime committed upon the Palestinians occurred 60 years ago, when colonialism was no longer considered kosher. Most egregious of all is the idea that pointing to another`s sins can justify yours. The world knows. The land was stolen and is being stolen. |
