We are still many people in "old" Nato-states that actually remember the promise given to Gorbatchov. The promise that we would NOT expand NATO onto Russias borders. And yet, sadly that is what the Bush administration eagerly has tried to do these years.
NATO membership for Ukraine and especially Georgia, is dangerous, and a clear breach of that very promise.

It should really come as no suprise that russians keep voting for Siloviks, considering NATOS encrouchment upon its borders.
Cooperation with the Russian Federation is the only way forward! Hostile "moves" on the chessboard will only bring forth a hostile reaction by the Siloviks.
The sad truth is of course that the Siloviks power was waning in Russia, before the Bush admin. found the means to re-invigorate them...
