Islam is going through an ugly and bloody phase at the moment, but it`ll pass as these things always do. However, the lull that follows this violent phase, will in turn be followed by another violent phase.
Christianity is going through a relatively peaceful phase right now, but it does, of course, have a long and bloody history and it will shed blood again. In the 1990s for instance, members of the Serbian Orthodox Church were closely linked to the genocide against Muslims.
Judaism has had a long peaceful phase since the violence it helped create in, for instance, the rebellions against the Romans, however, that seems to be changing. We have already had the first people slaughtered in the name of Judaism by Baruch Goldstein and no doubt more will follow.
Religion itself, the very act of saying to another human being `my God is right and yours is wrong and my God will punish you`, is an act of mental violence. Physical violence almost always follows eventually. |
