Of course the commandos should have been gentlemen and offered the terrorists a spot of tea or maybe a game of cards.

Maybe polite invitations should have been sent out to the killers, requesting that they meet and discuss the days events?

It is important when viewing these events to think rationally, to actually think through a thought.

Taking them alive, is the proper thing to do when dealing folks who are not intent on killing. But the Indian army was fighting thugs who find honor in the murder of innocents.

It would be nice if they hadn`t planned this atrocity, if they had stayed home that day, and made spaghetti for their children, but they chose to dress as civilians with the intent to destroy the lives of many.

I hope you have understood my intention in this post, it is to point out the fathomless irony in what you wrote.
