Manny Goldstein (#3) asks the wrong question. It presumes that Israel was responsible, but even now it`s not clear that was the case. Arab and Muslim fanatics have a long history of "fighting their own", going back to the murderous struggles between Mohammed`s successors. It`s not unreasonable to consider that Syrian intelligence or some terrorist associate decided to take him out.
Did he deserve to be taken out? Absolutely. That piece of scum was responsible for hundreds of deaths, including the strikes against US and French personnel in Lebanon in the 1980s.
What I find problematic is the fear of response that comes from taking out one`s enemy. They day we refrain from defending ourselves against our attacker for fear of retribution is the day we`ve lost the war. |
