Ken and Spyguy - you both right! This article is not "analysis" but a rather reduntant excercise in stating the perfectly obvious!
However I disagree with spyguy`s conclusion; true, we are born and we die "against our will" (Ethics of the fathers). But the conclusion is not an epicurean `eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we may die` - rather it is to live responsibly and morally so that if (G-d forbid) this day is our last (and who can say it isn`t) we`ll be ready to meet our Maker and say - Hey you know I tried my best to live like a mentsch; I made mistakes but I tried to rectify them and move forward. And remember -( we just read it on Yom Kippur): returning to G-d, prayers and tzedaka(charity) remove negative decrees from Above. |
