Israeli Jews have not felt the necessity of "organizing" in Jewish communities. That is part of a minority behaviour and in Israel they have grown up within a majority context. The Americans that join the dominant Jewish communities, i.e., the Reform Movement or the Conservative Movement --do so in part to have group support. Moreoever, as ;these movements are denigrated in Israel by the Establishment, it is likely that that denigration influences the attitude of Israelis in the United States. The lack of a positive attitude towards pluralism in the Jewish religion seeps into other attitudes of Israelis as well. Thus, on this matter the Jewish Establishment in Israel contributes to the lack of involvement of Israelis within American Jewish communities.
There is also the language effect, for example different language groups form enclaves of olim within Israel. |
