| Just think. When Sharon`s demise thrust Olmert into power Lebanon was a totally fragmented nation, much of it occupied by a foreign power. No group was more distrusted and despised by most Lebanese than Hisbollah. Then Olmert decided that the proper response to a Hisbollah attack on the IDF was to savage all of Lebanon. Syria was already gone, as a result of mass protests which led to a feeling of national unity and power. Only Hisbollah was disappointed. As Lebanon suffered for weeks, something happened. It became increasingly clear to the Lebanese that they were Lebanese more than they were hyphenated Lebanese. If they all suffered together, perhaps they should stick together. In 2007 tottered on the brink for a few days, and pulled itself back. Now there is big talk of a united strategy to defend Lebanon. And as Uncle Sugar is reluctant to arm it well. . . . Hello Iran. Perhaps Israel might consider it`s self-destructive policies. |
