Obama said he would not let this conflict fester as Bush did for 7 years. He is putting in place a reasonably decent team and he can multi-task. Hopefully not like Reagan where rogue operations were almost a norm and hopefully not focused on single issues like Carter did.
If the two-state resolution id killed off, either by Netanyahu or by a collapse of the PA, what is the point of providing aid to a collapsed PA or a PA with no prospect of ever succeeding? The purpose of support for the PA is to facilitate a Palestinian state that is viable from the start. If the idea dies, the responsibility for governance and all governmental functions from schools to firefighters and police reverts to the occupying power. The costs would be theirs and theirs alone. |
