Father worked for a Glatt Kosher butcher in Manhattan-he delivered the meat all the way to Spring Valley because these poor people ,paying more money for Glatt kosher then regular kosher,thought they were actually getting what they were paying for. In reality the butcher had both non-kosher and kosher meat that he delivered to nursing homes and cut the supposed glatt kosher meat on the same butcher`s table as the non kosher-they were eating traef but paying for Glatt Kosher.
My husband as a teenager worked in a burger joint-not kosher,I don`t think they had Kosher burger places back then,if the meat fell on the floor,it went between the bun-no matter.He told me to be extremely polite to the waiter because he knew what would happen to the food other-wise.
The Rabbi who was in charge of enforcing the kashruth standard in NY,years ago, was beaten up by the Russian mob for enforcing kashruth Law.
