Israel can fill their prisons with Palestinians overnight. It is not as if jailed Palestinians have any legal rights in Israel. This is the reason for the disparity in numbers. Capturing an IDF man who is on duty manning a tank is not such an easy matter. Obviously it is possible. The capture of Shalit has already cost the Palestinians many lives, including those that were killed by Israeli reprisals not long after his capture. You might say that the Palestinians have already paid in full for their boldness in capturing Shalit. In any case, there is no reason for Hamas to offer Israel a super bargain price for their man. The whole object is to demonstrate that there are things which are out of Israels control.
