I am sorry to say that I for one, have never heard of (and I am fairly educated) any nazi-era warcriminals hidden away in Norway.
After the war, we temporarily reinposed capital punishment and executed a few, while jailing quite a lot of "Nasjonal Samling`s" party members (yes that party which got 2.5 % of votes in one election, and went on to coup the nation).
As for those who voluntered to fight U.S.S.R. and liberate our brethren in Finland(Finland lost territory to the S. Union after the Winter War of 39, and subsequently joined Hitler-Germany to get back the Karelia), thus joining Waffen-SS during the war (they were like 17 years old...), we norwegians DO NOT look at them as "nazis" or "criminals" today, as they fought and mostly died for a cause they thought honourable and commendable.
The insuniation that the Norwegian state is somehow "hiding" warcriminals is laughable and most deplorable. In Norway, as in most formerly occupied countries, nazism is hated and despised. |
