| The threat of a moderate Palestinian state has been defeated. The argument that moderates negotiating with Israel can accomplish anything has been destroyed. This looks like `Mission Accomplished` for the Israeli right, but in typical fashion they have seen only the enemy of peace, and not the greater enemy they have fostered by destroying Abbas. Hamas has drawn strength from every act which weakened Abbas. When Netanyahu puts on his Jackboots, the situation in the West Bank will rapidly turn in favor of Hamas. This is most unfortunate, but it seems to be what the Israeli right wants. |
