If the problem consisted of Fatah and Hamas only, Israeli politicians could lean back and wait. Unfortunately, it`s about the millions of Arab-speaking civilians living in the West Bank and the Gaza strip, most of them suffering heavily under Israeli occupation and isolation. Olmert let it drag on, Livni seems to be even more incompetent, and "Bibi" will find no solution: he can`t expel them under the eyes of the world public, and he can`t let them starve either.
No one can tell me that a state power that has been strong enough to oppress those millions for 40 years is not able to remove some hundred thousands settlers from the West Bank. It is an outdated Zionist ideology that blocks the only reasonable solution. To dismiss it is Israel`s only chance to permit its citizens to lead a normal life in a globalized world. |
