Immature teenagers all over the world, when they believe that the law discriminates against them, tend to riot.
While I do not defend the actions of the teens, I can say that the Supreme Court has in this ruling completely undermined its legitimacy and the belief of the National Religious that they are treated fairly.
While the settlers have not proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they bought the House of Contention, it is more likely than not that they did. After all, the purported seller was tape-recorded admitting the sale, and the reason for any ambiguity lies in the fact that Palestinians who are found to have sold land to Israelis are killed by the Palestinian Authority.
In insisting that the settlers vacate the House until its ownership is finally settled, the Court is applying the letter of the law while ignoring its spirit. There is no doubt that if this property were in Tel Aviv rather than Hebron, they would not evict the occupants. |
