"It must, once and for all, make it clear to the public in Israel - not the settlements - that there is one law for all, and no one is above it." - Haaretz
A nice platitude, but what about reality?
The reality is the Settlers are allowed to commit any crime they want with impunity. On occasion the will have their palms slapped, or be asked down to the police station for a short while and be told they have been naughty.
When they are punished, they are lionized by the Israeli right as brutally oppressed heros.
There are very many Israelis outraged over the behavior of the fanatics which their nation has favored for 30 years.
But they have no power and those that do are not going to do anything to stop the Settlers or impose the law upon them. |
