| Unlike the asian region to the east, the vast majority of the germanic lands were not able to be conquered, and the land that was was not held for long. To the Romans Palestine WAS a backwards little area of nomadic tribes fighting each other. When the Jews revolted, the Romans quickly crushed them and destroyed their temple and dispersed many of them throughout the empire as slaves. Although this was not unique to Palestine, this was common practice will all major revolts in asia, north africa and parts of europe. The jews were really of no particular importance and were never mentioned really in any roman writing, at least, not any more than many other tribes or peoples of the region. |
