| I was raised to be racist, but I`m not. My dad never misses an opportunity to make a racist comment. Where he failed to instill his prejudice into me was the way he insulted and talked down to my friends. It didn`t take long before I rejected just about everything he tried to teach me. This year I took part in making history. I voted for America`s first black president. My dad and I don`t talk much, and haven`t for about 20 years now. After the Iraq war started I spoke with him regarding DU and the cancer and birth defects it is causing in Iraq. He told me that if I thought it was so great over there, then why don`t I move. Now... what about cancer and birth defects made him think I thought it was "so great"? The answer is... He didn`t think, he simply reacted out of prejudice and hate. I imagine that these kids will grow up a lot like I did and decide for themselves what the future will be. |
