Morris, I hear you loud and clear.
the mechanisms are in place to prevent nuclear proliferation.
What is needed is solidarity on the part of all member nations of the IAEA to ensure those mechanisms work.
For example, five years ago Iran was submitting to not only the normal safeguards and inspections regimen, but an enhanced, almost draconian set of inspections and safeguards.
Eight years ago, North Korea was complying with the IAEA and the ?greed Framework.
The problem was there was one government who wanted to wage wars with them and which had not yet discovered the limits of it`s power.
So that government created a crises with each of those nations which resulted in them rejecting IAEA controls.
Iran proceeded with the program already announce. North Korea produced enough Plutonium during the Bush years to make 4 or perhaps 6 bombs. Eventually it called Bush`s bluff and detonated a device.
Both disasters were the result of bellicosity on the part of one nation. |
