On many occassions I have likened Israel to a prospective rape victim surrounding by rapists complaining that their targeted victim has more power arms than they do. It is virtually impossible to get rid of this inequality given the populations differential between Israel and its enemies and the direct and indirect resources at the disposal of Arab states and terror groups. Hence, the problem isn`t an easy one. But a solution isn`t impossible. It requires a phased approach to eliminating weapons of mass destruction that is proporationate to genuine and enduring peace in which there are important economic and other ties between hopefully "former enemies". It also requires security guarantees for Israel and also the other peoples in the area.
This is complex and challenging but do-able but only in a world where there are genuine peaceful intentions that are manifested by genuine peace. At this point, Hamas`s, Hezbollah`s and Iran`s policies don`t permit even small steps of progress. |
