"Our royal family is actually very secular so I just don`t understand why he would make such a statement--which makes him sound more like the Taliban--since he wasn`t talking to group of rural Saudi rightists."
- Mohammed

Self-protective boiler plate.

The House of Saud has always been extremely reactionary, and has supported Wahhabism. For The Custodian of the Two holy Mosques, to go to NYC, to an interfaith conference he sponsored, and to meet with men of many religions, including Israeli Jews, is a BIG change.

What else can he do but end his speech with an affirmation of faith?

As an incredibly secular American I find his actions almost shocking.

It is an extreme break with the past policies of Saudi Kings.

I do not think he has become a liberal, or sees Saudi`s future to be as a secular democracy.

I do see a man willing to take risk in order to bring a bit of stability to the region.

Even if his actions are intended to preserve his position and prosperity, they are good.
