... all else! Syria broke through the international border back in 1948 in its attack, from the Golan, against the state of Israel a day after the latter was proclaimed based on UN resolutions. Syria`s intent then was to annihilate the Jewish state.
Ninteen years later it attempted to accomplish what it failed to do during Israel`s War of Independence and once again was repelled by Israel, this time beyond the western part of the Golan.
Syria tried one more time to eliminate Israel, this time in 1973, and failed, only to find itself and its capital city, Damascus, being threatned by Israel.
Over the years Syria has collaborated with Hizballah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Iran, all of which have been calling for the wiping of Israel off the map.
I would think before all else and at the very minimum Syria must recognize Israel`s right to exist before it becomes a player in regional politics. |
