| There was a time that Syria would have made peace with Israel, ceasing all support to Hamas and Hizbollah, in return for the Golan heights. Lately though, the emergence of Iran has added a new element which has great interest to Syria. This will develop further in about two years as the Americans depart Iraq. This will be a great opportunity for Iran and they have already made successful inroads with the Iraqi government. The Obama government will likely engage in negotiations with Iran. This would automatically lead to negotiations with Syria, especially since Iran and Syria are in a great position to effect the future of Iraq. With all of these interesting developments, along with others, Syria will be in no hurry to make any deals at present. They have waited a long time already and will get better offers in the future. What`s two more years? |
