| Much to the chagrin of my right-wing friends, I`ve been saying the same thing for years. The racist discrimination in Israel has to stop. There has to be more affirmative action to get Arabs into jobs, there has to be more interaction between Jewish and Arab schools, there has to be more and better cross-cultural education. Arabs have to learn Hebrew, but more Israeli kids have to learn Arabic at a higher level than what is taught now. And no, being a democracy doesn`t mean being a democracy only for Jews, it means being a democracy for all citizens. It won`t take away from anybody, and only makes us stronger. Keeping the minorities down means we`re afraid of them, and means that we`re weaker than we think. Bah! I think we`re strong enough to give Arab Israelis the same as the Jews get. We`ll all be better off for it. |
