Labhras, the world has witnessed an incredible end of a very long war in Northern Ireland, and shows that when the timing is right, the conditions are right, and the mutual will of the waring people of Ireland are in the right mindset for peace, then peace can be achieved.
I wish this be the case here in Israel too. But the time is not right. The conditions are not right and the will of the people is not in place to have this happen. Hammas on our Southern border has its CENTRAL TENANT OF BEING, to destroy Israel, kill or expel its inhabitants to build a new Muslim state on its ruins. The PLO covenant which calls for the destruction of Israel, still remains intact. Abbas, who seems to be sincere in his peace calls to Israel, is a weak leader with no mandate of his people. What kind of agreement could we make with him, that will last more than a couple of Palestinian elections? |
