| "IT can be put on any munitions the american use it in tank shell and also in dumb bombs and smart bombs because the metal is heavy and able to pentrate heavy aromor such as that of T72 fixed wing air craft use it too to kill tanks and destroy fortifications" - Reza Shah The US uses Depleted Uranium in armor piercing munitions for the M-1 tank (M829 APFSDS), the M-60 tank, (M774, M833 and M900, all APFSDS rounds), as well as the M919 APFSDS for the Bradley. We also use DU in rounds for 20 mm and 30 mm guns on AH-1, AH-64 and A-10 aircraft. DU is great for AP rounds because not only is it heavy, it is self-igniting when exposed to air. Thus the round is not only AP but Incendiary as well. The requirements of a penetrating bomb are different. I think the interest of the IAEA is to establish the nation of origin for the DU. |
