It looks like we both agree with the substance of PM Olmert`s speech to the Knesset, although we don`t seem to agree on the motive.

You`re letting a little cynicism show when you say, `I guess [Olmert] is privy to the intel reports`; although I suspect, as do you, the Obama Administration will be more even-handed (and how could it not be, compared to the carte-blanche of the Bush years), I do not think this was the motive that informed Olmert`s speech.

Olmert is, after all, a `lame duck`, and I think it was precisely this which led to the public unburdening of his opinions. He no longer has `political considerations` - and although he is come very late to statesmanship, his speech must be reckoned as a hallmark of it.

I only hope Israel accepts his wisdom, tardy though it is.
