| Now this is a surprise. With Israeli politics in more than just the doldrums - in fact it seems to be an utter maelstrom - to see that some of the smarter brighter public figures are contemplating supporting Meretz is encouraging. Anyone who thought the likes of Gideon Sher and Avrum Burg were either delusional or foolish are themselves culpable of ignorance and blindness. Then to have writers of international acclaim like Oz an Grossman - there aren`t really any quite like them both - suggests that intellectuals still have a home in Israeli politics and that battered and forlorn though the dog of Israeli politics is, there is still life in it.
