The other sillyness, the dream of a bi-racial state in Palestine was shared by many Jewish Palestinians at first. That dream became impossible by 1929, and hopeless by 1936.

There is just too much between the Israelis and Palestinians at this time for any bi-national state to work.

IT is a noble dream, but impossible.

That it was impossible was proven by the response of the Arabs - and most Jews - to the UN Partition plan.

No one tried to make it work, everyone started fighting to grab as much as they could - BOTH SIDES.

Fortunately - in my view - the Jews were much more organized, prepared, and adept.

By the time that Israel declared independence it was well on the way to creating two separate states. The Arabs, at the same point, were determined to have a single nation with a single nationality.

The rest is history.

Some day the Palestinians and Israelis might have a cordial and productive relationship.

But first they need a divorce.
