Obviously the Greek paper in question is run by idiots, but it does rather highlight something you notice a lot on here, a gap between European and US perceptions of Jews and Israel. I`ve wondered about this for some time, and I think it`s down to the fact that the US is a unique, settler society, with most of its citizens not having long roots in the land. Only perhaps Australia is similar.

Most Europeans, and other nations, have a national identity that stresses attachment to the land of the ancestors over hundreds, even thousands of years. Greeks have that. In some sense, so do I. I know my family come from Yorkshire and, effectively, always have (they must have been immigrants at some stage, but hundreds and maybe thousands of years ago). This gives Europeans an innate sympathy with Pals (and those Jews) who have lived in Israel for centuries and centuries.
