Batyam quoting Cromwell`s book as a historical source is like quoting the Protocols of the Elders of Zion as historical fact of Jewish blood libel and plots of world domination. Critics generally dismissed Cornwell’s book as sensationalism with little serious or original scholarship. Ronald J. Rychlak in Hitler, the War, and the Pope effectively rebutted Cornwell’s major assertions. Cornwell’s aim was to discredit Pius XII, and through him, his successor, Pope John Paul II.
The fact is that Jewish leaders of Pius XII`s era praised him for the 900,000 Jewish lives saved through his efforts and other members of the Catholic Church. The claims Pius was indifferent and did nothing are truly outrageous. |
