This is a question I have asked myself watching the way being "pro-Israel" has played out in the media. "Why can`t a candidate be pro-peace instead of pro-Palestinian or pro-Israeli?" That would be the candidate I would pick.
Anecdotally, I had a gentleman running for my state rep pass by my home. His father is my Rep at the Federal level. Both are facing re-election. He found it odd I was going to vote for him and not his father. He asked why. I said his father`s Foreign Policy stance. The answer was "Well he is pro-Israel" and I said yes, and our family is part Palestinian and we are pro-Peace.
In the mean time, I am answering questions from my pre-teen daughter about why McCain seems to think Arabs are bad as he only clarified that Obama was not Arab, not that Arabs can be "good". Then too, why is it so bad to be pro-Palestinian that her origin is virtually used as a swear word. |
