| Support for Israel is not "rooted deep in the heart" of the Washington political establishment. Like all politicians, they take actions and positions which are politically expedient. This is how they stay in office. If it is shown that support for Israel is hurting American interests, then support for Israel will evaporate. All that anyone needs to do is notice that, even in the American economic meltdown, the American taxpayers are being charged billions every year to support a rich nation like Israel. This should start the alarm bells ringing. Unquestioning and unlimited support of Israel is out. This has been a recent change but it is a change that has started a trend. If America cannot achieve peace in the mideast through its Israeli partner, then America will seek other partners. American foreign policy should not and will not have to be approved in Israel before being implemented. Israelis should take notice because it is their future at stake. |
