One can`t help but notice how sloganism is utilized in Islamic societies. Your subject "Jailing elcted Palestinian lawmakers is a crime Vs democrac[y]" is a perfect example. I would agree with you if Hamas society jailed the lawmakers on the basis that they shouldn`t be permitted to be law makers. But here is the rub. Other countries, who did not vote for these guys (and they are guys), have not democratic stake at issue. So when Israel arrests and jails these guys because they are playing a role in facilitating the targeting of Jewish civilians, it is neither a crime, nor contrary to democracy. In fact it is self defence and the consequences of a democratic choice to legitimize violent people who use their status as law makers to futher their violence.
I know that Pals are new to this but just because someone is elected doesn`t mean, within his or her society, and especially outside his or her society, they have carte blanch to commit or even participate in heinous acts. |
