I spent two days in the company of volunteers of Rabbis for Human Rights/Yesh Din/Eucumenical Accompagniment Program/Christian Peacemakers Team helping to protect the house of Mr Khalife Da`ana, which has become the focus of attack by masked settlers after the nearby Federman house, illegally built on his land, was demolished and the settlers tore down hundred metres of fence and began to terrorize the extended family and the inhabitants of another house, even more close by and vulnerable, inhabited by a 95 year old lady. The rain of stones and the destruction waged on these houses and their inhabitants day and night, whilst the border guards still have not received instructions to deal with this firmly, reminds me of the kind of terror the KKK was waging against blacks in the 1950s. We hear the Israeli government protesting against the abuse against the Israeli security forces, but the real focus are the exposed Palestinian farming families, who must suffer this abuse day and night. |
