As someone who has objected strongly to attempts by British leftists to shut down Israeli universities` participation in academic discourse, I find it offensive that Hebrew University is punishing a student simply for failing to shake the President`s hand (and commenting, however wrongly and naively, on Peres`s past actions).
There was no punishment for students here in the US who refused to shake President Clinton`s hand at graduation ceremonies. Nor for those who protested President Bush.
How does this statement of opposition to Pres. Peres do any harm to the University or to anyone else? |
