Why should I come to Romania? So to re-live my childhood when boys my age were running after me shouting "Jidanu`!!"? Or to meet again my friend who told me that he we`ll not play with me anymore because my people killed Jesus?
Or to remember good old Ceausescu`s days when I was forced to work on Shabbats or on Yom-Kippur? Or the long queues for a bottle of milk for my daughter?
Or to remember how it was when my father died and I suffered because of the Romanian post-revolutionary bureaucracy? When they asked me to bring my dead father to the pension office so to prove he was dead? Or when they told me that because I`m Jew I have to pay extra if I want to claim my father?s propriety?
But you are right, I`ll have to come to Romania so to repair my grandmother grave that was recently destroyed... |
