| In the end, Israel must give up the Golan. It is the only thing of value which Israel posseses which can be used to trade with Syria. Israel badly needs Syrian cooperation before the war with Iran can take place. The Golan is a symbol for the Syrians and the Israelis Both sides see the possesion of this area as a "moral victory". In the event of Syrian betrayal, Israel sould be able to retake the Golan with little trouble. If they cannot, then Israel has bigger problems than anyone can imagine. |
