The U.S. will continue to isolate Hamas because the international community recognizes the PA as the legitimate government of the Palestinian people and not Hamas. Hamas had a chance during the unity government to accept the Quartet`s three conditions in order to be removed from the terrorism list and to receive Western economic aid and refused. That was Hamas` decision, but it wasn`t wise and the secession of the Gaza Strip from the PA was even worse since now Hamas has no input into the ongoing peace negotiations.
The U.S. is not imposing an embargo on the Gaza Strip and cannot lift that which is being imposed by our allies: Israel and Egypt. Besides, the economic blockade does not block humaitarian aid. If you want the crossings to be "open", then you will have to address the security issue first and call off your Jihad to destroy the "Zionist entity". And no half-assed Hudnas or Tahadiyehs allowed this time either. |
