Nobody really knows the purpose of the raid. The Bush admin won`t say. But they are leaking like a sieve and sending about 4 different messages and fact statements.
In Lebanon, some thing the deal was cooked up between the US and Syria and all this demonstrating and protest is for show, that the US just did Syria`s dirty work.
One thing for certain is that it has screwed up the Iraq SOFA negotiations and may force Bush to withdraw US troops on Dec 31, this year.
This is what John McCain calls defeat.
