Hi Smadar, I got your point, and it is simply a fact, that countries involved into a long- term conflict, are normally moving more to the "right"....The problem with your conserva- tive/liberal comparison is, that from a foreign policy/security point of view, both Labour and Kadima are far away from being "left/liberal" parties, but must rather seen as solid parties of the middle ("mainstream"), definitely from a European point of view.
Which leaves the Meretz party (around 5%) as the only really "dovish" party in Israel, so if we add the Arab parties, and the left wing of Labour, we get around 20 % of the Israeli electorate (and half of them Arab- Israelis), which really supports an active Israeli push for peace.
And in view of the fact, that Israel has currently the most "dovish" Palestinian leader on the other side (Abbas), those numbers are simply inexplicable.... |
