| Syria has an unstable dictatorial regime ruled by one family and one minority Alawi sect. It is internally besieged by Kurds, Druzee, Muslim Brotherhood, Sunni opposition and from outside by Israel, US, Christians-Sunni alliance in Lebanon, US in Iraq and Turkey from the north. Its only ally, Iran, is itself too weak and far away to be of any significant help, and is becoming weaker as oil prices keep going down. |
