Where were the Jews of the U.S. during the war year? How much was done by the Jewish leaders here for their european brothers? The record is this war-time Pope did more to save jewish lives than anyone else including the American Jews. Many here did not want to get involved, I haven`t seen a lot published about Jewish activism of the time, and word most certainly got out abot what was going on over there. The Pope learned from the Nazi reprisals in the Netherlands that happened in response to Catholic clergy speaking out. Retaliation against both Jews and Catholics was heightened.
