No, that is not true: the various players have refused to implement it because they continue to argue over what it means.
But they have not been able to ignore it.
Read Res 242 again, Mark; it is a political statement that the UN will not consider this conflict to be over until *this* and *that* happens *here* and *there*.
And because those things haven`t happened the self-interested parties have been unable to claim that this conflict is All Over Bar The Shouting.
Some examples: Israel has spent 40 years telling the world to Get Over It with respect to Jerusalem, and Go Get A Life when it comes to the Golan Heights, and Just Accept It that Israel has the right to choose its own borders.
And nobody agrees, and when Israel asks "why not?" they can - all of them - point to Res 242 and say "that`s why not". |
