I, too, am a friend of Israel. But what Israel needs is an American president who will be willing to do the job that true friends sometimes have to do: Tell you when you are going wrong, and give you the support to take the right path, no matter how overwhelming it may seem.
Israel needs a friend who will urge it to take the steps needed for peace, not opt for more of the same bloodshed and diplomatic stalemate.
I was greatly heartened to hear Obama support the division of Jerusalem, and greatly saddened to hear his apparent retraction. Israeli politicians know the truth about the key to peace, but need a push in the right direction.
I *hope* that Barack Obama and Joe Biden can do that, I *know* that John McCain and Sarah Palin cannot. |
