"Peres said that while he doesn`t `accept all of the Saudi plan and it needs to be negotiated further, its spirit is correct.` "
TRANSLATION: We won`t negotiate until you drop some parts of the plan i.e. Jerusalem, IDF withdrawal, and RoR. Do that and then we`ll sit down and talk.
"However, Mubarak openly disagreed with Peres` one-track approach - saying `the Saudi initiative is not open for negotiations.` "
TRANSLATION: It`s a packaged deal, Peres. You *accept* all of the package, and then we negotiate on that basis. We don`t "negotiate on what parts of the package we`ll negotiate over".
It really does pay to read all the comments from an Israeli politician, because invariably what they say isn`t what they mean.
Mubarak is right: Israel either accepts the Saudi Plan, or it doesn`t. And if Israel doesn`t accept it then it is up to Israel to come up with an "Israeli Plan"; it isn`t up to the Arab`s to cut-n-paste. |
