| The saddest aspect of this story is that in Israel everything has to be political. As intelligent young adults, being able to ask questions, experience and explore Jewish values, even if only for a weekend, is surely a positive. As it is, the vast majority of youngsters who go into the army wearing a kippa finish without one. The pressure is much more the other way and the fear of brainwashing is unfounded. The reaction of the concerned commanders doesn`t give much credit to the soldiers intellect or give any concrete examples of what is wrong with the program. Unless their view is that anything that strengthens Jewish knowledge or identity is wrong. That`s pretty sad. |
