| I am an Italian born and raised a Catholic and exquisitely sensitive to Jewish-Christian relations. I wholeheartedly agree with Minister Herzog. I am stunned and chagrined by Benedict XVI`s obtuseness. He clearly has no sense of history or sensibility towards others (remember the outrage he provoked with Muslims). I am frankly surprised that Israel even bothers to maintain relations with the Vatican. Trust me: the Vatican has absolutely NOTHING to offer to Israel. It is the Vatican and Christendom that is in the wrong. From the world`s point of view, the optics are horrible: a Holocaust-era Italian pope indifferent to the suffering of the Jews and other victims of the Nazis beatified by a German pope who enlisted in the Hitler Youth! The churches are already empty. I guess they can do without one more disaffected Catholic. |
