| Much of this disparagement of Pope Pius XII comes from those who have a visceral hatred of the Catholic Church and would never give any figure credit for saving Jews during the war. Pope Pius XII was a complex figure, not black and white. But what is clear that after the war many Jewish leaders complimented him on his assistance to Jews during the nazi horrors. The hatrers such as this absolute sweden on this site forget to mention the case of the Dutch Catholic bishops who did, on two consecutive occasions spoke out in a pastoral letter to be read in all churches condemning Nazi racial policy toward Jews. They were warned by the nazis to cease. They did not. As a result not only did the deportations continue but those non-Aryan Catholics who had been up to then exempt, were rounded up for deportation to the death camps. |
