First of all because the Pope is supposed to think about the Eternity,no the mundane "and what if Nazis turn against me" stuff.
Secondly,because the Catholic Church was very vociferous in opposing Nazi extermination of the German mentally-ill.
The Kardinal of Münster had hold a public sermon against it which forced the Nazis to stop doing it(oficially)
But the mentally-ill asylums were emptied of Jewish mentally-ill,the nuns and priests protecting the "aryan" sick delivered the Jewish ones to Gestapo. |
